Still luck-based, but with some creative ideas that your kids might love

I bought this after watching several positive YouTube reviews for the game. Our daughter turned five on Christmas Eve and I''ve been wanting some games that will challenge her mentally instead of giving her a win simply with dice or a spinner. (Seriously, spinner games are the worst!)

This game... it kinda tackles that... Kinda.

There are still dice, and there''s a simple rule that states you have to declare your goal for the dice before you roll - you can''t just go with what the dice gives you. This is the luck element, and it is the only thing that will dictate success or failure at the game. Success simply requires enough successful rolls to uncover and reveal the three clues which relate to your randomly-chosen "thief" at the beginning of the game, as well as revealing enough of the suspects until you find the one containing all three clues. You could get lucky and reveal the clues quickly, matching to a suspect revealed early in the game. Or you can have some nail-biters where the clues are revealed but the matching suspect is literally the last one left to flip over. Or you can botch enough rolls and lose. It helps that the game is cooperative, meaning that you don''t feel as personally victimized by the luck. However, get a few older people around the table, and you might get someone blaming someone else for not getting enough successful rolls.

The skill is simply understanding how to determine which of the suspects is innocent or guilty based on the clues revealed and the results from the clue-finding device (which itself is fun to work with.) To an adult this is a no-brainer, but to a five-year-old it''s a bit more complex. The plus side - and the reason I ultimately like the game - is the sheer thrill a child experiences when they connect the dots and nail the thief.

A few other notes: the game takes up a decent amount of real estate. The board is rather large, and you''re required to lay 16 cards either around the board or otherwise nearby. This is in no way a complaint, but just a head''s up - as far as kids games go, this one is rather large.

Also, the cards feel a tad thin, and my daughter already bent one just sliding it into the clue-finder piece. The theme and gameplay might work for a young kid, but the cards won''t stand up to a lot of abuse. In addition, the game arrived with the cards rubber-banded instead of the usual plastic wrap, meaning many of our cards were "marked" on arrival. The detective hats and fox pieces are a soft plastic that allow a little bending (which is good), and the dice are nicely printed with vibrant colors.

All in all the game is a good, if not short-term addition to the collection; kids will find it much more replayable than adults (kids can even play solo if they wanted to), with a fun theme that lightly encourages teamwork, albeit with an inescapable element of luck.

Bought this for my 4.5 year old as an introductory deductive logic game. At first, I was pretty disappointed by the simplicity of the logic needed for the game. Basically, you find out if the guilty fox does or does not have a particular item on their person. If the guilty party does have the item, then you eliminate all the suspects that do not have that item and if the guilty party does not have the item, then you eliminate all the suspects that do have the item. Simplistic enough that my 4.5 year old caught on pretty quick and was able to keep or eliminate suspects without assistance. So why the 5 star rating if the game was not what I hoped it would be? It is because my daughter LOVES this game and she has never liked board games all that much. Also the game does teach a fair amount of 4.5-7 year old appropriate strategy and has just a little bit of complexity to it which she has never had the patience to learn for any other game we have tried. I see it as a great way to introduce 4-7 year old kids to big kid board games, that a 4-7 year old will probably love.

A great deduction game to play with kids that teaches basic logic and tests memory. Three year old child just grasps the decisions and makes some errors in logic. Five year old clearly makes good decisions based on logic and memory. Seven year old finds it easy and will quickly out grow it. The play length is ideal for playing a quick game with Dad before dinner. Recommended but only for playing with kids aged 3-7.

This is a really great game! I played it today with my 5 year old and my husband and we all really enjoyed it. It has a really unique premise - a child-sized mystery. On each turn you must decide whether you’re going to attempt to reveal a clue or reveal 2 suspects. You work together throughout the game to try to catch the thief by using the clues to eliminate suspects. If you don’t roll either 3 clue icons or 3 suspect icons on your turn - the Fox gets to move 3 spaces closer to making an escape. It’s very well done and super cute. There is an element of chance, and a lot of problem solving & logic. Can’t wait to play again!

Today this arrived and we played it already and loved it! Board games are one of the best ways I have found to bond with my two young sons. So, I went on a shopping spree for them on Amazon and this game was one of the suggestions made by Amazon. They based it on several other games I had purchased by this same game company - games we also have enjoyed.
First thing is the packaging and contents: the box, the board, the tokens - everything is just so nice! Really fine quality. This company really puts in effort. I feel loke I got what I paid for.
The game itself is so clever!!!! I am 37 years old but i found myself hooting and hollering in relief and joy when after my third and last try with the dice rolled in our favor! We narrowly won our first game. The fox was just a couple bad rolls away from escaping.
This game is definitely worth it for little ones. It is the perfect middle ground of difficulty level for both my 7 year old and 4.5 year old.
It has that collaborative factor that brings us together. Although the game works by turn taking all involved are still working as a team. We made decisions as a team if the person with the next turn should choose to reveal suspects or clues.
There are 16 suspect cards and the decoder cards are a sequence of dots- hard to explain without showing it but let me say you will not memorize those 16 decoder cards no matter how many times you play the game. So, it will never get old. Very clever developers.

Great game for 4+ year olds - and is actually fun for the adults playing as well!

This game takes concepts we''ve seen in other classic games – Yahtzee (the re-rolling of dice), Guess Who (the elimination of "suspects" based on "clues") and Clue (moving around a "map" to find clues) – but combines them in a way that feels fresh and fun. Plus, the added collaborative aspect is well implemented, too.

I also like that they err on the side of the game being too easy than too punishing - e.g., you''ll usually be able to make it to the next "clue site" with one turn; had they spaced them out even slightly more, it would have made the game drag, especially for a little one.

As it stands, it''s well-paced fun, with just the right balance of "thinking" and luck.

Highly recommended!

I have played this game with my kids many times and still enjoy it when we get to play. As a father that has many board games and wants to pass that love on to my kids - I get tired of playing games like Hi-Ho Cherrio or Clue Jr over and over as the games just feel stale and repetitive. This game allows children to play the same game over and over but solve the problem from different angles and learn great board game skills along the way. This game has the randomness of dice throws, decision making, a "countdown" timer to a win or lose condition, pawn movement, problem solving, and a memory element. I encourage every parent with younger kids to try this one out. I play this with my 4 year old and 6 year old regularlyand while the game is fun the best thing about it is that my 4 year old stays for the whole game because it holds his interest. Hope your family enjoys it as much as we do.

Some games that are geared for my kids make me want to stick a fork in my eye (I''m looking at you, Chutes and Ladders), but this is pretty fun. In this cooperative game, all the players are trying to figure out the identity of the fox thief by revealing clues and checking out suspects. The process of the game encourages logic, deduction, and analytics, but don''t tell my kids that. Game play didn''t take too long (maybe 20 minutes?) and was enjoyed by the whole family, from the 4 year old to the 60 year old grandpa. (Younger than 4 would probably lose interest)

*UPDATE* I returned my original copy and received a new one, but it has the same problem as the first !! The orange “evidence scanner” is smushed together, so the cards can’t slide in easily (if at all w/o damaging them) and then they don’t go all the way down! Super disappointing :( I feel like Amazon must have a bad batch of the game. My next thought is to contact the company to get a replacement piece, instead of sending the whole game back again... Great game! We borrowed it from a friend, and instantly knew we wanted it for ourselves, to include in our family game nights! Easy for my kids (ages 5 & 7) to learn. And they love playing it too! Plus as far as kids games go, this one is even kind of fun for my hubby and I to play :) The only problem is... Ours arrived unplayable... The “thief” cards don’t slide all the way down, making it so that the green dots don’t line up, so you can’t get your clues to find out who the thief is! Plus you can kind of make out the name of the thief at the bottom, so that doesn’t work either! Upon further inspection, I see that the area where you slide the card in, is pinched together in the middle. I don’t think it was like that on the one we borrowed? And I’m thinking it must be pinched together at the bottom as well? We DID find it rather difficult to slide the card in... and I’m afraid it’ll start damaging the cards, trying to shove them in there. I still gave it a 3 star review, because it’s still a good game... I guess I would just recommend you inspect yours when it arrives? I will be trying to get a replacement piece so that we can actually play our copy!

My 5year old loved the game...and made us play several times today. Its easy to win the game if fox moves 3 spaces at a time...but we did lose a couple of times when it moved 5 spaces per chance. Couple of reviews mentioned that as detectives they kept moving between two paw prints revealing clues...I think thats wrong..if a clue is revealed at a particular paw print space then that space is done in terms of finding a clue. There are 12 paw spaces on board and there are 12 clues to be found in total....implying one clue per paw print space. Overall my wife found it to be a very cute game ...and my son likes to be the blue detective. The game is compact and interesting enough for both parents and kids. We loved it!
